Beauty Salon Grand Opening-Help me! How do I Get Clients in my Shop?
Congratulations! You now have this amazing shop you have worked countless hours and with stressful planning and now the question you ask yourself is, how do I get clients in my shop? Well, you need to make some noise in within your own community and get the word out. Start with flyers and your local paper. Social media is a must. Advertising should begin a few months in advance. Letting people know your salon is opening soon with an approximate grand opening date. Now is basically where the fun begins, at least it was always very exciting for me. So, get your thinking caps on because as long as you’re in business and I hope you succeed and have many years of remaining in a successful business.
Keep in mind you are not only satisfying your clients, but you will be employing others, therefore your clients will depend on you for your beauty and nail assistance and your employees will depend on you to pay their bills. So yes, the pressure is on, but it doesn’t have to stress you out if you are willing to put in the effort to continuously promote your salon. I mean promote and never stop promoting.
If you’re working alone at first, be sure to be ready for the unknown meaning depending on the shops location and how many clients are willing to give you a try with the possibility of changing hair stylists. With today’s competition loyalty is not as high as it was in the past. However, a great stylist will always achieve great success. Confidence and talent never die, therefore get ready for a fun and terrific beauty future.

Hair Cutting- Rewards Cards!
We all may thank American Express for the birth of rewarding our clients, after all they had this brilliant idea and how many years later everyone offers this to their clients. And if you don’t then what are you waiting for? This tiny little business card offers clients so much in return. Happy clients will tell their friends, family and co-workers about this amazing deal. Your probably like what’s the big deal, a free haircut. Well to most people on a fixed income it’s a really big deal. To those families struggling life and kids it’s an incentive for the whole family to patronize your shop, and that single man who always brings in the card well, he is giving you his business, because clients have choices. Not to say that the card is the only reason clients patronize our shops, but it definitely helps in hooking them in the first place.
1. What is a Rewards card?
A Reward Card is an incentive for the client to get their haircut at your shop’s location faithfully and in return you either sign the card or give it a punch hole on each number assigned.
2. What does it mean to offer clients a Reward Card?
A Reward Card is a generous gift from the salon owner telling the client they are appreciated.
3. How many haircuts should I offer my clients before giving them a free haircut?
It all depends on how busy the shop is, or on how generous you choose to be with your clients.
Most Reward Cards have a limit of ten (10) haircuts, or I’ve seen some as far as twelve (12) haircuts.
4. What if a client forgets their Reward Card at the time of the haircut service?
Well simply initial your name on the receipt and have the client bring in the receipt at their next haircut appointment or if you have a salon software then you can keep track of the haircutting services there.
I offer more services at my full-service beauty salon; may I include other services in the Rewards Card?
Absolutely, the incentives in a full-service beauty salon, or nail, tanning or even a barbershop are endless. There is nothing in stone stating that it is solely for haircuts. For example, waxing, or nail services such as a plain manicure or an eyebrow wax. Combined with a haircut or a perm.
You may even want to offer family reward cards. Think about it they are choosing to patronize your shop. So, giving a little incentive will go a long way.
5. I own a barbershop, what Rewards should I offer my clients?
First and foremost, on a haircut, secondly on a shave, but I wouldn’t offer a reward on a clean-up, since It’s a quicker service and costs much less than a haircut.
6. I have a cash business and have no way of tracking my client’s Reward Cards?
Well in this case, if your clients are loyal then you will have to take their word for it, when they do in fact lose their cards or forget their cards. But I would strongly recommend that you as a barber keep a log near the register with client’s names and dates of services. It can be easily done in an excel sheet and it must be updated on a monthly basis. Sounds like a lot of work, but if done consistently it takes a few minutes and your shop will be running like a professional shop should.
7. Do spa’s offer Reward Cards?
Once again, if you want happy clients then I don’t see why not! We live in a very quick mannered world in which if the client gets upset or isn’t happy with a service or a stylist, they will not think twice about leaving the shop and trying out a new shop across the street. I’m not saying that a card will hold them back but it definitely helps with loyalty but as a stylist or a barber one must do our job in providing the best customer service and make sure that the client is satisfied.
8. I own a tattoo shop may I offer my clients a Reward Card?
I don’t’ see why not, you do you offer piercings and small tattoos, then the answer is yes.
In your case you can even offer your clients rewards on jewelry if you sell them. I wouldn’t recommend giving them a free tattoo after the card is filled but you can offer them a discount on jewelry or on selected piercings.
If you choose to offer clients Reward Cards, then if must be faithfully done. Clients will look forward to getting their free or discounted service. So have Reward Cards on hand at all times. Do not lack and forget to order the reward cards, that is if you want loyal clients by your side.

Beauty Salon Marketing and it’s Challenges

Beauty Salon Marketing and it’s Challenges
With thousands of marketing ideas on the web. Ultimately what advice do entrepreneurs seek?
Afterall we all know how to cut hair, give manicures, perform shaves, shape eyebrows, wax and give tattoos, however when it comes to generating business often times we get stuck on ideas.
Some promotions will
Generate business and others will unfortunately not turn one head. That is a chance we take with marketing. That is why some businesses will get busier quicker than others. For example, the shop who promotes monthly with a professional sign, will attract clients must faster than the shop who refuses to promote often and uses cheap hand written paper signs. In business being cheap is not acceptable, being professional is. It is ok to budget of course but when promoting a special, please use a printing company and foresee the proof before it gets printed. Measure the window and the sign should not over power the whole window and not be so small that it cannot be read from across the street. Standard size for paper signs is either 2x2 or 2x3. Unless your window is much higher these sizes will attract new clients and turn a few heads as they walk or drive by your shop.
I cannot emphasize the importance of promoting each month, and for each major holiday.
Do not be afraid to cut your prices in half, remember most franchises cut their prices and they seem to generate business in a more rapid form than if they did not promote at all.
When I first opened my barbershop, I immediately began to promote haircuts. First, I did an overall haircut sale for everyone, then I targeted the children’s cuts followed by senior cuts.
All I was doing was haircuts, so I had to get creative with specials, signs and how to promote by keeping it interested along the way.
As your business grows you will find your niche and see what works best for you and your clients.
The key is to never give up and keep focusing on the positive side of everything and remember each client should be treated like it was their first time in the shop. Never take the client for granted. They have choices and they are choosing to give you the business versus another shop.
Good luck!
